Travel Tips
If this is your first visit to the mountains, please take these tips into consideration when planning your trip:
-
I-70 from Denver to Breckenridge can be a challenging, heavily travelled road as you climb up into the mountains. Consider making travel plans so that you can take this highway during daylight.
-
The town of Breckenridge is at 9,600 feet. The altitude can cause health issues. It is best to not drink alcohol the first couple of days on your trip. It is recommended that you drink lots of water while in the high altitudes.
-
Wear sun screen as the sun can be very intense.
-
The grocery stores in town will charge a fee for each plastic grocery bag you need. You can avoid this by bringing your own reusable grocery bags with you.
-
Bring comfortable walking/hiking shoes as you can do so much by just exploring on foot from the condo.
-
In the summer mountains, it may rain periodically every day. Come prepared with a jacket and umbrella as these storms can develop very quickly. The summer evenings will be very cool.
-
You don't need to purchase water as the tap water is fresh from the mountains. (The local merchants chuckle at visitors that purchase bottled water) The air is very dry, bring a reusable water bottle with you and keep it filled.
-
Pick up a copy of the Summit Daily News in the blue newspaper boxes around town. Local restaurants advertise their daily specials in the paper.
-
Pick up a copy of the Breckenridge Dining Guide to see a list of restaurants along with a sample of their menus.
